Burn – Knot, ft. Martin Emiji

Making your dreams come true sounds like a good idea, but there’s an alarming finality to it. Once all our wishes are granted, what next? Is there any “next” at all? Time seems to be the only currency we don’t know how much we have left of, but can’t help spending it anyway; the only thing we really have, and, by the same token, lose every moment; this one commodity which can’t be borrowed, replenished, or saved for later.
We’ll surely run out of it one day – the trick is to get there before we can think of no more valuables worth paying for, or people to share our time with. Let us waste none of it!

A million thanks to Martin Emiji for his jazzy piano playing here! Martin is not only a brilliant musician, but also a great visual artist. Be sure to visit his website www.martinemiji.com for more goodies.

Lyrics:

Wandering around the screamy “one way” signs
late for an appointment with yourself,
the time and place were set, the route seemed right,
but still when you get there you’re not there

Let it burn
the candle on both ends dripping down the crooked tables.
Let them turn
turn into quills all feathers that fall.
Let the flame write down your creed across all empty pages
learn to put out fires with lightning and oil.

Fighting the current no matter the cost
with more and more candles blown out every year,
looking for a key you have never lost
bright silver you wear on a string of grey hair.

Let it turn
turn into diamonds all sand in the hourglass,
never learn
to silence the hunger, to choke out the wick.
Climb up through the haze, catch all the falling stars
let them burn, burn down the names you never needed

In the garden of marble the silence of million sounds,
of visions, divisions no longer in sight.
The names carved in stone are drowning in wax,
pale faces awake to the faintest of lights.

Let it burn
the candle on both ends dripping down the crooked tables.
Let them turn,
turn into quills all feathers that fall.
Let the flame write down your creed across all empty pages
learn to put out fires with lightning and oil.

Let it burn!
